CROSS-INDUSTRY COLLABORATION ON OUR JOURNEY TO NET ZERO

1. HOW TO EXCHANGE PRODUCT CARBON FOOTPRINT (PCF) DATA

CROSS-INDUSTRY COLLABORATION ON YOUR JOURNEY TO NET ZERO

1. HOW TO EXCHANGE PRODUCT CARBON FOOTPRINT (PCF) DATA

2. HOW TO GATHER AND ANALYZE DATA TO MAKE AM MORE SUSTAINABLE

1. HOW TO EXCHANGE TRUSTWORTHY PRODUCT CARBON FOOTPRINT (PCF) DATA

The goal of Making AM Greener is to build a network aiming to enable each party in AM Supply Chains to exchange trustworthy Product Carbon Footprint (“PCF”) data.

  • Obtaining a complete and accurate PCF in AM can be very challenging, due to the complexity of AM supply chains and the lack of transparency in data.
  • The need to share data with customers and get data from suppliers presents its own technical and trust barriers.
  • As an industry, we will only become climate-neutral if we know where the emissions come from. Making AM Greener brings transparency to AM supply chains, working in an open ecosystem, and harnessing the power of data.
  • The carbon footprint of an AM part is mainly influenced by the energy consumption during the manufacturing process and emissions related to the production of the raw materials and transportation in between.

2. HOW TO GATHER AND ANALYZE DATA TO MAKE AM MORE SUSTAINABLE

The past decade of industrial digitalization and automation held a key – one that points to data as the engine for real progress. It’s time to get started and make sustainable industrial innovation in AM a reality.
DEVELOPING A CIRCULAR ECONOMY
AND RECYCLING IN AM
MATERIALS CHEMISTRY AND AM PROCESSES ARE NOT AS EFFICIENT AND GREEN AS THEY COULD BE
WE DO NEED FOCUS ON EFFICIENCY OF MACHINES, SUPPLY CHAINS AND MATERIALS
BIGGEST POTENTIAL DRAWBACK IS ENERGY USAGE BOTH IN THE TYPE AND VOLUME OF ENERGY
IT CONSUMES
AM COMPANIES NEED A WAKE-UP CALL TO FOCUS MORE
ON ECOLOGICAL SUSTAINABILITY AND NOT JUST GREENWASHING
WE SHOULD USE THE TIME BEFORE AM ENTERING THE MAINSTREAM OF MANUFACTURING
AND CAUSING THE SUSTAINABILITY ISSUES 20 YEARS LATER
MATERIAL REUSE WITHIN AM
IS STILL PROBLEMATIC

BIGGEST CONTRIBUTORS TO THE CARBON FOOTPRINT:
* ENERGY CONSUMPTION OF THE PRINTING PROCESS
* EMISSIONS RELATED TO THE PRODUCTION OF MATERIALS
